Chemistry Panels

Chemistry panels are groups of tests that are routinely ordered to determine a person’s general health status. They help evaluate, for example, the body’s electrolyte balance and/or the status of several major body organs. The tests are performed on a blood sample, usually drawn from a vein. Here is a list of standard chemistry panels used nationwide:

Basic Metabolic Panel

  • 1. Sodium
  • 2. Potassium
  • 3. Chloride
  • 4. Carbon Dioxide
  • 6. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
  • 7. Creatinine
  • 8. Glucose

Thyroid Panel

  • 1. TSH – Thyroid stimulating hormone
  • 2. T4 – Free T4 (Thyroxine)
  • 3. Thyroid Uptake

Electrolyte Panel

  • 1. Sodium

  • 3. Chloride
  • 4. Carbon Dioxide

Hepatic Function Panel

  • 7. Direct Bilirubin

Lipid Panel

  • 1. HDL – High Density Lipoprotein
  • 2. LDL – Low Density Lipoprotein
  • 3. Total Cholesterol
  • 4. Triglycerides

Renal Function Panel
